bartered love

Have you ever been left?
And asked
"Is it better to have loved than lost?"
Heart aches and anguish unfortunately
Can’t just be bartered away
They can’t be sold
To the highest bidder
A deep and confounding emotion sadly
Cannot be given to those in need
No matter how deserving
The irony of loss is this
Despite the fact
That you lose what you wanted
It is neither misplaced nor stolen
It is bartered despite your best effort
For an emotion
Much less desirable
And even sadder is that fact
That the emotion you have
Cannot be bartered away
It’s yours to keep
Till it wears out its usefulness
And leaves you alone.

City Streets

I notice her standing on the corner
Eyes shining
In the crisp august sun
I think she looks so alone there
Eyes lying
Cause winters almost begun

I see the lone man sitting there
Barely existing
As traffic passes over head
I wonder if he belongs somewhere
More fitting
And if he'll see it before he’s dead

I'm awed by her modern beauty
Well dressed
As she dominates the street
I find she displays her booty
No respect
Making her beauty cheap

I discover my reflection in glass
So alone
As I make my way through town
It disappears as I pass
Heading home
To etch these words down
